Venue & Accommodation
The Meudon Observatory is located uphill the Seine river in the south-west suburbs of Paris, at 162 meters above sea level. There are several possibilities for lodging in Paris and in Meudon. The Paris option is better for tourism and night life but the drawback is that the rail transportations only brings you up half of the hill (about 80 meters above sea level). There is a hourly city shuttle bus that brings you at the entrance of the Observatory from the Bellevue train station. If you don't want to walk 20 minutes or wait for the city shuttle, you may book a hotel in Meudon-la-Forêt. That option requires a car, a taxi or a 30 minute (flat) walk in the forest.
Update on Railways Traffic
A railways strike is announced from tuesday night, for 24hr. Here are linked to the planned train schedule if you are coming from Montparnasse station:
- [wednesday] Montparnasse -> Meudon-Bellevue
- [wednesday] Meudon-Bellevue -> Montparnasse (note that there are only a few trains in the late afternoon...)
- [thursday] Montparnasse -> Meudon-Bellevue
- [thursday] Meudon-Bellevue -> Montparnasse
The RER-C lines is not planned to be affected by the strike.
This section will be updated regularly.
