  • G. Aulanier is a tenured astronomer at l'Observatoire de Paris. His PhD was awarded in 1998 from University Pierre & Marie Curie, and he obtained his habilitation (HDR) in 2010 from University Paris Diderot. At the observatory he occupies two positions : director of the Department of Education (UFE), and solar physicist in the Laboratory of Space Studies and Instrumentation in Astrophysics (LESIA). As such he served and still serves on several national scientific, pedagogical, and administrative committees. He also serves on the science team of the AIA instrument of NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) spacecraft, and he is a Science Co-Investigator of both STIX and EUI instruments of ESA's Solar Orbiter project. He is a member of the editorial board of the peer-reviewed journal Solar Physics, and he serves as a referee for various scientific journals and funding organizations. His research focuses on the Sun's magnetic activity, in particular prominences, flares, and coronal mass ejections, that are the main drivers of space weather. In this area, he is specialized in the development of magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) models so as to understand the physics of observed phenomena, and he is the original developer of the Observationally-driven High-order Magneto-hydrodynamics (OHM) code in three dimensions. He teaches solar physics and computational fluid dynamics at the master level, and he is involved in the tutoring of undergraduate student projects, and of pedagogical projects of teachers in primary, middle, and high shools.
