CESRA Workshop 2013 New eyes looking at solar activity: Challenges for theory and simulations June 24 – 29, 2013, Prague, Czech Republic 1st Announcement Up-to-date and more detailed info to be found at http://wave.asu.cas.cz/cesra2013/ General Information CESRA, the Community of European Solar Radio Astronomers, organizes workshops on investigations of the solar atmosphere using radio and other observations. Although special emphasis is given to radio diagnostics, the workshop topics are of interest to a large community of solar physicists. The 2013 CESRA workshop, New Eyes Looking at Solar Activity: Challenges for Theory and Simulations, will highlight new observational capabilities of instruments that can probe solar processes from sub-millimeter to kilometer wavelengths. ALMA and LOFAR are entering full-operation state and observations of the Sun will be made in the near future. At the same moment, the extensive use is being made of radio spectrometers in space, STEREO/WAVES and Wind-WAVES, and existing and upgraded ground-based instruments like Nobeyama Radioheliograph, Nancay Radioheliograph, Ratan, SSRT, and many others. These instruments provide data that enable studies of both energetic particles and thermal plasma, enhancing our knowledge of solar eruptions and acceleration and propagation of particles, all through the solar chromosphere and corona and into interplanetary space. The CESRA 2013 Workshop will summarize new capabilities of the observational facilities and discuss the theoretical issues related to solar radio emission and interplanetary radio physics. There are good enough reasons for solar physicists (not only solar radio astronomers) involved in observations, theory, simulations, and instrumentation to meet and discuss recent results. Format of the meeting The format of the workshop will combine plenary sessions and working group (WG) sessions. The plenary sessions will consist of invited tutorial/review talks and oral contributions that will be selected by the SOC from the submitted abstracts (contributions not selected for oral presentation can be given as posters and/or within the working groups). The working group sessions will run in parallel and will be devoted to informal presentations and unconstrained discussions. The following working groups and their leaders are: WG1: Large-scale disturbances and shocks (Alexander Warmuth and Manuela Temmer) WG2: Long-term activity, oscillations, and coronal heating (Costas Alissandrakis and Kiyoto Shibasaki) WG3: Transients and particles in the IP space (Christophe Marque and Karl-Ludwig Klein) WG4: Flare process and particle acceleration (Victor Melnikov and Alec MacKinnon) Invited talks Henry Aurass: Solar eruptive events at meter and decimeter waves Roman Brajša: Solar research with ALMA Bartosz Dabrowski: ALMA softwares (observing tool and CASA) Richard Fallows: Solar research at ASTRON Andreas Klassen: Radio bursts and SEPs – the STEREO view Gottfried Mann: Solar radio science with LOFAR P.K. Manoharan: Review on IPS studies linked to CMEs and solar wind Anita Richards: Radionet activities and summer schools Alexander Stepanov: Quasi-periodic pulsations in flares Štěpán Urban: Molecular spectroscopy and ALMA Nicole Vilmer: Solar flares and energetic particles Venue The workshop will take place in the modern and fashionable premises of Faculty of Architecture, TU Prague located in Prague downtown, close to the Castle. Plenary sessions will take place in the large auditorium that can host up to 200 participants. Working group sessions will take place in smaller rooms. The auditorium, adjacent areas for poster presentation and the other rooms that will host the workshop are equipped with all modern facilities required for a conference. The conference site is easily accessible via public transportation: It is in the walking distance from the subway (Metro) station Dejvická. Climate Weather in Prague in June is usually pleasant, the temperature reaches values 25-30 C, rain showers are possible. Nights are cooler. You are advised to bring light casual clothes, and a sweater or jacket for the evenings. Travelling to Prague Prague can be reached easily from all over Europe. The city centre is at a distance of 20 minutes by car from Prague airport, and 30 minutes by public transport. The train stations are in the city centre. Please check whether you need the Czech visa. Should it be the case, indicate it, please, in the on-line registration form. Registration and abstract submission On-line registration and abstract submission is open since February 1st, 2013 at the conference website http://wave.asu.cas.cz/cesra2013. Abstract submission closes on April 30, 2013. Due to the time-limited extent of the meeting only a part of submitted contributions can be presented as contributed plenary talks. The rest can be presented as posters or short oral talks within the working groups, as introductions to more detailed and informal discussions. The working group schedules will be prepared and decided by the WG leaders. Based on the submitted abstract the SOC will decide about the contributed talks and inform the participants during May. On-line registration is open till May 31, 2013. The regular registration fee paid by the end of May is EUR 200. The on-site registration is also possible, however for an enhanced fee EUR 250. Accommodation For the conference participants 100 places is pre-booked in the Hotel Krystal (http://www.prague-hotel-krystal.cz/) for the period June 24-29, 2013 at discounted rate 750 CZK (approx. 30 EUR) per single-bed and 1100 CZK (approx. 44 EUR) per double-bed room and night. The pre-reservation terminates on March 31, 2013. Please, make your booking by that date via Hotel Krystal's on-line reservation system http://hotel-krystal.hotel.cz/accommodation/. Adduce CESRA2013 and the reservation number 431173 into the Additional information field in the reservation form in order to get the discounted rate. Alternatively, you can contact Mrs. Eva Studena and make your reservation by e-mail, stating the keyword CESRA2013 and reservation no. 431173, again. The participants wishing different kind of accommodation may have a look at some free hotel-booking web portals such as http://www.hotel.cz/praha/accommodation/, http://www.booking.com/city/cz/prague.html, or http://www.accommodationinczech.com/en/. Note please that June is high tourist season in Prague and make your accommodation booking rather in advance.
