Abstract

PRIMA 'faint objects' is in the line for a next development phase of dual-field observing facilities at VLTI, and the PRIMA /ASHRA reflection committee has stressed the need for a definition study of phase-referenced imaging with UTs. Estimated performances in terms of magnitude limit and sky coverage will be presented, together with the potential of PRIMA/UTs in imaging ICRF quasars in the near-IR, for a detailed comparison of emission sources in the radio and optical ranges. A main difference with the first development phase of PRIMA (with ATs) will come from the Adaptive Optics system. The question of enlarging the size of the MACAO corrected field will be shortly discussed.
