The Institute of Space and Atmospheric Studies (ISAS) at the University of
Saskatchewan seeks a full time Professional Research Associate and a
Post-Doctoral Fellow for its ionospheric/space weather research groups in the
study of high latitude radar data. The applicants will need a good working
knowledge of ionospheric/atmospheric radars, their data acquisition process,
and the scientific problems that can be studied with such systems. The
successful applicants will be expected to investigate polar cap dynamics and
electrodynamics, and to assess the role of the polar cap in the coupling
between the solar wind and the magnetosphere-ionosphere-thermosphere system.
A tool of choice for these studies will be two new PolarDARN HF radars
operating in the Canadian polar region. The radars are used in conjunction
with satellite observations when possible, and with a wide array of ground-based
instruments in the polar cap and elsewhere. There will be opportunities
to work on data acquired with the US-built AMISR incoherent scatter radar,
the SuperDARN chain of HF radars, and with the instrument array from the
Canadian Geo-Space Monitoring (CGSM) program.
A doctoral degree with at least 2 years of postdoctoral research experience
in ionospheric radar studies will be required for the Research Associate
position. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate an ability
to design experiments, engage in independent research, and have a capability
to publish the results in refereed journals. Salary will be commensurate with
experience.
Please send a statement of interests, experience, and curriculum vitae

Associate position. Applications will be considered until the positions are
filled.
